Transport and Logistics (NC(V) Level 2-4)

Develop essential skills for a career in the transport and logistics industry

Overview

The National Certificate (Transport and Logistics) programme is designed to provide both the theory and practice of Transport and Logistics. The practical component of study may be offered in a real workplace or in a simulated workplace environment. It will provide students with an opportunity to experience workplace situations during the period of study.

Minimum Entry Requirements

For entry to the Transport and Logistics NC(V) program, you require one of the following:

  • A year end school report for grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 certificate; or
  • An NQF Level 1 qualification; or
  • An approved bridging programme designed for the specific purpose to access NQF Level 2; or
  • A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment to meet the basic requirements for access to NQF Level 2.

Duration

The program can be completed as follows:

  • It is a full year programme at each of the NQF levels of study (Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4).
  • A student is issued with a certificate on the successful completion of each level of study.

Subjects

In order to obtain a National Certificate (Transport and Logistics), a student is required to take a total of 7 subjects. These include 3 fundamental subjects and 4 vocational subjects.

Fundamental Subjects

  • First additional language - which must be the language of teaching and learning (i.e. English)
  • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
  • Life Orientation

Vocational Subjects

  • Transport Economics
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Freight Logistics
  • Transport Operations

Further Study Opportunities

Upon successful completion of the NC(V) Level 4 qualification, students can pursue further studies in Transport, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related fields at universities, universities of technology, or other higher education institutions.

The program emphasizes practical application of transport and logistics concepts through:

  • Case studies and real-world logistics scenarios
  • Supply chain management simulations
  • Transport planning exercises
  • Warehouse management practices
  • Freight documentation and procedures

Students will have opportunities to experience workplace situations during their period of study, either in real workplaces or simulated workplace environments.
